I really like that Sophos’s mobile app has a lot of additional features — including an authenticator and a password vault. But I do feel a little disappointed that Sophos doesn’t include some of these extras in the desktop version as well. That said, if you’re looking for a more all-inclusive product with device cleanup tools, a password manager, a VPN, and secure cloud storage, Norton 360 is a better choice. To add a new device for remote management, I had to copy an installation URL generated by Sophos and email it to whomever wanted me to manage their device. First I emailed the URL to my co-workers, so they could install it on their PCs.
With Sophos, you install a small local agent on each PC or Mac that needs protection and manage all the settings from an online console. That makes perfect sense, given that in a business setting the IT department manages security remotely. On the negative side, the scanner lacks a quick or custom scan option. Hi all, I was wondering if sophos is a good AV in 2022, I remember it was pretty good in 2020 and they've also moved to cloud so there should be minimal impact to pc resources. Last I tested Sophos it wasn't that good, to be honest and good luck with support if you should need it. Sophos Home doesn't really seem to upload much, so it might be operating in a similar manner to the first tick box in this video by uploading hashes/checksums and behaviors. The hitmanpro component in the premium beta is similar, but it warns you when something is in the process of being uploaded. Worst is the transparency for cancelling automatic renewal, for it even seems hidden by purpose.
Sophos Home Free detected 100% of our real-world malware samples in one test and blocked 100% of malware downloads in another. Only one of the labs we follow has included Sophos in its latest reports, though that lab gave it a good rating. The web content filter is so porous as to be useless, but content filtering isn’t a required feature for antivirus protection.
Both antivirus products score high marks whenever they go through the rigorous testing regimes at the four independent testing labs that we follow. These independent testing labs have hired researchers to put security products through grueling security tests. I always advise running a full scan after installing any antivirus utility, to make sure the system has no preexisting malware conditions. After that initial full scan, you can probably rely on real-time protection to handle any new attacks. If you're at all worried, Sophos lets you schedule a full or quick scan for any day of the week.
